Inhaltsangabe: Im Jahr 1940 besucht ein reicher Amerikaner mit dem namens Howard Latimer England. Latimer wettet mit zwei Engländern um 1000 Pfund, dass er in der Lage ist, alleine nachts im Hurstwood Landgut, einem Grauen erregenden Spukhaus, zu bleiben. Latimer werden eine Kerze, ein Streicholz, eine geladene Waffe und ein Buch, das die geisterhafte Geschichte des Landgutes erklärt, gegeben. Ein entkommener Irrer brach einmal ins Haus ein, enthauptete ein junges Mädchen mit dem Namen Julia und brachte ihre Schwester dazu, geisteskrank zu werden. Im Haus sieht Latimer den Geist und schießt ohne Wirkung zu erzielen...
Mehrere Jahre später, treffen die zwei Engländer Latimer und erklären ihm, dass es alles nur ein Trick war. Latimer versucht plötzlich, einen von ihnen zu erwürgen. Ein Wärter der Anstalt aus der er entkommen ist, hält Latimer zurück. Latimer ist wahnsinnig geworden.

(Opening Narration)
Alfred Hitchcock: Good evening. Do you believe in ghosts? Of course not. I know you didn't. Noise is the mortal enemy of good motion picture making and television broadcasting. That is why I hired this particular house. It is deathly quiet. (People scream off camera) Most of the time. And it's reputation for being haunted keeps away the curious. The shifting of scenery also seems to be better here. The human element has been removed. So, if you would just lean back and relax, I'll tell you a little ghost story. Please don't hesitate to turn out your lights. I'm sure the warm glow from the picture tube, will be sufficient to melt all your fears of the dark. But before we view with alarm allow us to point with pride.
(Closing Narration)
Alfred Hitchcock: And just because a silly girl lost her head over some imaginary noises years before. Apparently some people can't read. (He turns to a sign that says "quiet", while noises can be heard off camera.) It's all right. just a young lady who needs help to put the chains on her car. I'll be back shortly. Meanwhile, considering the gravity of our next announcement, I think this is more appropriate. (He flips the "quiet" sign, now it reads "Think". Fades to commercial)
Alfred Hitchcock: A very interesting experience. It's been years since I saw a Stutz Bearcat. Now for a few posthumous announcements. The bullets used on tonight's program were made with new enriched gunpowder. Furs by Feline. Tonight's guests were flow to Hollywood by the world's oldest airlines. (A broom stick appears.)
