Inhaltsangabe: Laurence Appleby ist ein Antiquitätenhändler, der seinen Geschäftspartnern viel Geld schuldet. Seine Frau weigert sich, ihm finanziell auszuhelfen. Er liest ein Buch über Unfälle mit tödlichem Ausgang und findet eine perfekte Methode: er tötet sie durch wegziehen eines Teppichs unter ihren Füssen. Laurence heiratet danach eine reiche Witwe, die zustimmt, seine Schulden zu bezahlen. Als er die meiste Zeit in seinem Laden verbringt, wird seine neue Frau böse. Laurences Schulden beginnen zu wachsen, und seine neue Frau weigert sich, sie zu bezahlen. Er will sie auf die gleiche Weise umbringen wie seine erste Frau. Leider hat die neue Frau Appleby das gleiche Buch gelesen wie er und hat einem Brief an ihren Rechtsanwalt geschrieben. Sie weist den Rechtsanwalt an, der Polizei zu sagen, wenn etwas mit ihr geschehen sollte, wie es passiert ist. Der Rechtsanwalt liest den Brief und ruft Frau Appleby an, um zu überprüfen, ob sie in Ordnung ist. Als Frau Appleby zum Telefon geht, stolpert sie zufällig über einen zerzausten Teppich und ist tot.

And my advice to leave for mother's immediately. That is, immediately after the conclusion fo our program. Our story tonight is called, "The Orderly World of Mr. Appleby." Unfortunately, It will do nothing to relieve your fears. If that is what you want. If you want contentment, security, peace of mind, listen to this advice from our friendly philosopher.
