Inhaltsangabe: Die ältere Frau Monica Laughton hat einen Begräbniskranz an ihrer Tür. Sie grüßt den Milchmann und sagt ihm, dass wieder ein Verwandter von ihr gestorben ist. Der Milchmann hält dann an einer Cafeteria, wo er über Fräulein Laughtons Vermögen und Exzentrizität mit dem Mann am Schalter redet. Das Gespräch wird von Frank Bramwell zufällig mitgehört. Er beabsichtigt, Fräulein Laughton mit seiner Frau zu besuchen um sie zu berauben. Als sie das Haus erreichen, wird ihnen einen leeren Salon gezeigt, wo sie ihre imaginäre Familie vorstellt bekommen und ihnen ein offener, leerer Sarg gezeigt wird. Lorna Bramwell will gehen, weil sie fürchtet, das Fr. Laughton geisteskrank ist, aber Frank betrachtet die Situation als eine noch bessere Gelegenheit, als er gehofft hatte - und er ist auch bereit Gewalt zu anzuwenden, um zu bekommen, was er will. Frank und Lorna durchsuchen das Haus, aber sie finden nichts. Frank bedroht Monica, aber sie ignoriert ihn und beginnt ihre imaginäre Katze am nächsten Morgen zu füttern, als Frank und Lorna Cupcakes zum Frühstück essen. Monica sagt, dass sie das Cupcakes wegen der Mäuse bäckt. Frank und Lorna sterben weil die Cupcakes mit Arsen versetzt waren. Monica hängt zwei Kränze an die Tür, und jeder nimmt an, dass sie sich nur wieder etwas einbildet.

Alfred Hitchcock: Good evening. I have a request for those of you who are not watching television. Please turn on your set. I'm sure I look much worse in the flamboyant technicolor of your imagination than I do in the austere black and white of television. Thank you. I'm sure that's much better. Although it may still be one color too many. Black and white are very fitting this evening. As a matter of fact, we considered edging the entire picture in black, but we gave that up. It would have been decidedly unfair to those of you with very small picture tubes. Or narrow imaginations. Tonight's fable is about Monica Laughton. A nice little old lady with a penchant for funerals. You should learn more about Miss Laughton after our sponsor gives this brief but heartfelt eulogy on behalf of his product.
